2 RARE antiquarian books! San Francisco, A city Of Ruins, by T.P.S. Publishing Alameda California 1906 and San Francisco by Cunningham, Curtis and Welch San Francisco California 1903. Two very different soft cover booklets.
The first,shows the devastation the fire and earthquake brought to the city on the bay, with explicit photos of the horrific damage. Smashed buildings, lost souls,tent cities, ruins and ruined lives.

One easily pictures the remains of fire bombed Dresden Germany or the Atomic bomb ravaged Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
The second book string bound scrapbook style is inscribed, Xmas 1903, some of the buildings before the earth quake. It shows a happier time, with China Town, Sea Lions, majestic buildings, port and maritime scenes.
Each book is in good condition and contains dozens of rare antique images of the this historic event.
Both books stand in sharp contrast, a before and after. Empire and natural disaster, act of man, act of God. |
