Gone to it's new home The Getty Museum. Early pre war old Japan Geisha pair Lithophane photograph. This Late Edwardian wooden oval image, though difficult to properly show here, is in fact, quite clear. Nice facial and hair ornament details exhibited. More then two inches tall. With an almost golden hue on black lacquer wood this unframed special technique. Frequently found on mid century tea cups, this imaging method dates back to the Victorian era and found on Meissen and other famous porcelain makers. Lithopanes aka lithophanes are rarely found on wood. This would look spectacular mounted on a large broach or pendant necklace.
